.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 347 PM CDT Mon Aug 11 2025

Tonight...

An MCV crossing through southeastern Nebraska this afternoon has
helped generate a few scattered, non-severe thunderstorms across the
area. These storms will continue to spread out trough the rest of
the afternoon and evening with the overall coverage of storms
decreasing with time. These storms appear to be more randomly
dispersed than clustered into a line or other sort of organized
feature. Due to the weak flow aloft, a lot of these storms should
continue to move fairly slow (between mainly 5-15 MPH) with various
storm trajectories all dependent on small to local-level (mesoscale)
environments. These slowly moving and highly scattered storms may
linger over a few more concentrated areas, leaving sharp
precipitation gradients. Due to these challenges, it is fairly hard
to be able to narrow down or guess at specific locations that are to
be hit or missed. PoPs remain around 25-40% across the board and
decreasing through the evening.

To restate, severe weather is not expected with these storms as weak
shear and limited instability keeps the "storm fuel" low this
afternoon. A few early reports of "funnel clouds" within a few of
these storms earlier this afternoon were merely what we would call
cold air funnels. It is much more rare for these funnels to actually
reach the ground or to produce significant winds, though a gust up
to just over 50 MPH or causing minor damage would not be totally
impossible. Because of this, these phenomena are not classified as
tornadoes, though it is still not advised to approach them.

The Rest of the Week...

Beyond this evening`s precipitation chances, quieter weather rests
on the horizon. A cold front dipping down into the area Tuesday will
pull the winds towards the north to northeast for Tuesday. Meanwhile,
the surface boundary that has been hanging over northeastern Kansas
over the last several days, will finally be expected to accelerate
eastward, joining up with the upper level trough`s propagation. A less
amplified ridge will fill in behind this trough, becoming the
dominate mid-to-upper level feature through the rest of the week. At
the surface, a weak neutral to slightly high pressure gradient will
keep winds light to variable at times through Tuesday with
southerlies becoming locked down Wednesday.

Clearing skies Tuesday with the slight southerly warm advecting flow
will transpire a multi-day gradual around 15 degree warm up through
Friday. 2/3rd of the areas is expected to see highs in the mid to
upper 90s Friday afternoon. Heat index values may exceed 100 degrees
in places Thursday through Saturday afternoons and generally the
greatest in extent Friday afternoon.

A surface low may assemble over the high plains Friday, possibly
organizing another cold front along with it for the weekend.
Temperatures will drop some over the weekend (around 5-10 degrees)
with next next best precipitation chances Saturday and Sunday (15-
30%). Some uncertainly around timing this front as well as the
placement of the surface low limits confidence for now. These chances
are too far out to be able to provide more information or to share
any more information regarding potential hazards or impacts with
greater confidence.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Mon Aug 11 2025

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

Tricky low-level cloud bases (2-4kft) bounding between
scattered to broken at times over the next few hours (mainly
until 22z). Showers with a rumble of thunder continue on
through KGRI through 19z or so, with storms/showers in
KGRI/KEAR vicinity through mainly 22z. There is a limited
potential for a few more storms to develop between 22-03z, but
the impacts to KEAR/KGRI are unclear as storm coverage looks to
remain minimal. Retaining VFR conditions are expected to take
back over this afternoon.

Light winds will stay fairly variable though this evening and
night with a passing cold front keeping winds north to
northeasterly for Tuesday morning.
